Mtunga Mutinda (Child No. 138)

Mtunga is an orphan (mother and father have both died) who lives with his grandmother.

He is a student at Nice View Academy in Tala, Kenya and was born in Segani, Kenya.  He thinks he was born in 1998.

Mtunga’s grandmother does not work and relies on the generosity of others to survive.  He has a sister, Ndunge, who also attends Nice View Academy.

His favorite color is blue and he loves to play football (American Soccer).

His favorite class is math because “it is good for him”.  The class he likes the least is English because it is hard and he does not understand it.

Mtunga helps at home by fetching water.

Maurice is an orphan who was brought to Mercy Child Foundation in Koma, Kenya by his local church.

He was born in 1997 in Meru, Kenya and has two brothers and two sisters living elsewhere.

Maurice’s favorite color is green and he enjoys playing football (American soccer).

His favorite subject is CRE (Christian Religious Education) because he “understands it the best.”  His least favorite subject is Math because he doesn’t get it.

Maurice helps at the orphanage by fetching water, sweeping, mopping and helping mum with any errands.  When his chores are finished he likes playing.

Alex’s favorite class is math because he just likes it.  He does not dislike any of his classes.

Madina has four brothers and three sisters.  None of them live here. 

Her favorite color is blue and she likes playing netball (basketball). 

Madina’s favorite class is English because she understands it.  Her least favorite subject is Social Studies because “it’s hard”. 

Her chores here include washing utensils and mopping.  When her chores are finished she likes reading. 

Madina has been  diagnosed with Lymphedema and is undergoing treatment as of August 2009.

Lucy’s favorite class is math; she says “it’s very good.”  When she grows up she would like to be a singer. 

Her least favorite subject is Kiswahili because she’s not understanding it. 

Lucy helps by washing clothes and washing the dorms.  When her chores are finished she likes playing.
