Today we are organizing, scanning and printing information regarding the workers at C4KK.  Sounds simple enough right?  Remember yesterday, I said NOTHING in Kenya ever seems to be simple.  Add this to the list.  I will give you one area which was frustrating….names.  You have a first, middle and last name, right?  I still haven’t gotten the hang of how they name children around here.  One person has 7 children….5 whom we know do not have the same last name (however they all have the same father, who passed away several years ago).  When asked about this we’re told one is named after the father’s father, another after the father’s grandfather and still another after the father’s uncle and these are last names not first names!  It seems there are no middle names, just first and 2 last names plus you may have a baptism name and that’s added on to your list of names too.  Very confusing.

Also, names on ID cards don’t match the names we’ve been calling people or birth dates are literally put on ID cards so you can retire earlier.  Apparently no proof of birth date is needed when applying for the ID, you simply give them the date…since retirement here in Kenya is at age 55 people put a few years older on their ID so they can retire earlier.  Hard to believe but that’s what we’ve encountered.

Then come to find out I’m missing some info I thought I had in my computer….I hate when that happens.  So now I have to duplicate efforts, find the info and get it back into my computer <aarrgh>.

Thankfully electricity has been on and internet has been (ha!  Spoke too soon, just as I was about to write that I was kicked off the internet) somewhat smooth.

Back to it and hopefully not pull all my hair out!
