Received an email from Pauline (she is Gideon’s wife, who is the Director at Nice View Academy/Orphanage) on Tuesday. Here are her updates:
She reported that all is well with them at Nice View. Ruth, our friend who we met on our first trip to Tala and celebrated her birthday, is pregnant and Pauline said they found out she is expecting twins!
Anastacia, house mom at Mercy Child Foundation, took Medina to Tala for her monthly injection (you can read her story here.) She also let Pauline know of the needs for food and firewood at Mercy.
We are working on a pen-pal program with a local school and Pauline received the first batch of letters. She got them all printed off and said the students here should be receiving their responses soon.
She asked about our health and our children’s health. She was thankful for daily prayers said for them and she asked me to pass on her regards for everyone.
Another friend, Pastor Mutie text Chuck with good news, they had a baby girl! We were at their ‘pre-wedding’ back in 2008. A pre-wedding is like a fundraiser before your wedding. It gives people the opportunity to celebrate with the couple (I never heard of a reception after the wedding in Kenya, but we weren’t there for any weddings so maybe…) Everyone is encouraged to buy a piece of cake or a boiled egg, sometimes they will auction off those items and the proceeds go to the couple. Neat way for young marrieds to start their life together.
Here they are on their wedding day:
I’m so happy Pauline is able to keep me up to date and I thank God for her service to Him. God has blessed this ministry with our beautiful brother and sister in Christ – Pauline and Gideon in Tala, Kenya.
There are receptions, just often in the same venue as the wedding, and you never leave your seat. They bring the food and drinks to you. Then the bride and groom walk around feeding people pieces of their cake.
