During the school year last year Nice View Academy had visiting days every Saturday where family members could come and visit their child who borders at the school.  (Here you get a glimpse of what occurs on a visiting day.)  It was so much fun walking around the compound of the Academy talking (at least I was trying) with parents, aunts, grandparents, cousins.  The families that came to visit made it an all day event with food they brought (and always willing to share!) and stories and encouragment for their child.

Recently Pauline sent me a photo she had taken during our last visit.  (I know I’ve posted several times who she is but for any new readers, Pauline is Gideon’s wife who is the Director of Nice View Academy/Orphanage)

The above photo was taken last year when we visited James at his school where he stays full-time and comes home during school breaks (they go to school January to December with three months on then one month off).

During our visit we took food and soda and was able to buy ice cream(!) from a local vendor.  James introduced us to a couple of his teachers and Pauline had a parent/teacher conference to discuss James’ grades.

James’ school had another visiting day this past Saturday.  I can imagine how the day went – getting food prepared in the morning, having any supplies ready that James may need, getting Grace and Eric in the car (love you guys!), putting everyone and everything else in the car, stopping at the kiosk for soda, parking somewhere on the compound of the school, finding a shady place to sit, spreading out the food for everyone, thanking God for His providence, serving the meal and having great conversation and fun.  Then after eating taking a walk around the compound, see where James’ classes are, meet some of his teachers, find out how he is doing and possibly talk with a teacher on how he can improve (work hard James!).  Then maybe, just maybe, they’ll get a treat from a local vendor who sells treats like ice cream.

After a full day it will be time to say good-bye.  Hugs and encouragement will be given, plans discussed for the next school break and then they will drive back home thankful that the Lord had given them another wonderful day and time to spend with James and family.

Sorry we missed being with you all, but God-willing next year we will be there with you!
