Some of the following information is at the end of the video but many times I don’t stay for the closing credits! So I will give you some background here. Mwaitu is an endearing term used when we address elderly women in Tala, like grandmother. Mwaitu in the video is Gideon’s mother (Gideon is the Executive Director at Nice View Academy/Orphanage in Tala, Kenya).
She was in a festive mood this day and was sitting outside in the sun. Her usual spot is sitting between the kitchen and living room, I think so she can see all the action in both rooms!
I asked (through the interpretation of Evelyn, a family member) if mwaitu would sing a song for us. Mwaitu wasn’t sure about singing so she looked to her grandchildren, Grace and Eric, to sing with her. After they sang a bit then she began, but still wanted their input!
She has a habit of humming much of the day and I miss hearing her. When she sings she sounds so peaceful and when she prays for us I can sense she is speaking directly to the Almighty God, even if we don’t understand her language!
How very lucky and blessed I was to be able to capture her on film that day. I pray the Lord continues to bless her and her family who take care of her so wonderfully.
