I was listening to a comedian the other day and she was talking about germs in the bathroom. How we are so careful with not touching anything but then grab the disease riddled door handle! The bathroom is a mine field of germs to me! I use my foot to flush, I get my paper towels before turning on the water, use the back of my hand to turn on the water (unless it has to be turned and then I’ll use part of my paper towel), wash with soap and water, turn off the water with either the back of my hand or the paper towels I’ve already gotten, then use that same towel to open the door. I also carry sanitizer with me and use it often, especially after: coughing or sneezing in my hand (if I happen to not have a tissue!), using the cylinder at the drive-up window at the bank, shaking hands (nothing personal!) or pushing the grocery cart in the store.
It got me thinking of how I sometimes present the appearance of “goodness” (sanitized) but yet inside is the disease riddled door handle. That’s why I feel it is important to always stay in God’s word, to continually show me where the diseased parts are in my life – ” For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) The Bible also shows me God’s character and that nothing I do/think/say is beyond His attention – “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.” (Hebrews 4:13a) I will also be held accountable for my actions and thoughts – “Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” (Hebrews 4:13b)
Everyday I must repent of all that yucky, germy, diseasy stuff in my heart, the stuff that separates me from my Savior, the stuff that comes out in either speech, actions, thoughts or non-action but I know that – “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
Thank you Father for cleansing me and adopting me as your daughter.
