Class 8 (8th grade) K.C.P.E (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education) scores from Nice View Academy were received recently.  K.C.P.E. is a national test the 8th graders take in December (the end of their school year) to see which, if any, secondary school they can attend.  It’s much different than here in the States where you can basically choose which school you go to – no matter what your test scores are in 8th grade.  Some students, if they do not do well on their KCPE’s, even decide to re-take 8th grade for a chance to do better on the test the following year.  500 is the top score for the test and according to Mars Group Multimedia the top score in Kenya for 2008 was 460 and “about half of the candidates – 346,885 – scored 250 marks (50 per cent) and above. But that does not mean they automatically qualify to join secondary schools. From practice, only those with 300 marks and above are admitted to the 6,400 secondary schools countrywide.”

11 of our Class 8 students at Nice View who are orphaned or unable to pay for their education scored between 364-206 and I tell you this for a couple of reasons:

1)  Please keep the students in your prayers as many of them wait to hear which school they will attend for Form 1 (9th grade)

2)  Since these students have no one to help them pay for their future education, Saved By God’s Grace is responsible for their education.  Sending these students to another school is going to cost approximately $350/year per student but that brings me to another point…

FINISHING THE SCHOOL AT NICE VIEW ACADEMY!

With the completion of the school not only will students with the ability to pay school fees be able to choose to stay at Nice View to continue their education but the orphans who would have normally been sent to another school (where fees would need to be paid by Saved By God’s Grace) can continue their schooling right at Nice View Academy at no cost.

This photo is from August  2009 and the building still stands at this phase of completion because of lack of funding.  As a matter of fact it’s even a bit behind because the walls on the third floor were taken down in order to build the new dorms required by the Kenyan government.  The new school can (when finished) accommodate up to 500 students in classes Nursery (pre-kindergarten) through Form 4 (12th grade).

Please prayerfully consider helping with this project and tell others of the need for the school building.  You can visit our “See the Needs” page for details on this and other projects or go directly to our secure donation page to lend your support.

We are very thankful for the support you have given and continue to give.  This allows us to continue to purchase food, clothing, medical attention and continue work on the building for the children at Nice View Academy, Eldama Ravine Children’s Village and Mercy Child Foundation.  God is working in Tala, Kenya.  I trust Him to work not only there but all over the globe through His people for His glory and our good.
