Sunday morning I had a very brief moment where I felt I was home. It was a strange yet comfortable feeling that caught me quite by surprise while I was preparing (ok microwaving until we get a stove) breakfast. I had the sensation of being not back in my home in Phoenix, but just felt like I was already at home. The feeling came and left so quickly but I held onto it and knew I would again feel that way…hopefully for a longer period of time next time.
- Psalm 84:3 – Even the sparrow has found a home…
We landed in Kenya over 2 months ago (can you believe it!?) and began construction right away, so since our arrival we only have a few suitcases that have been unpacked (most into our giant dressers!). Other cases are shifted around from room to room until we have someplace to unpack them or they are at the Academy waiting for me to organize them. It hasn’t been an easy way to live because just about everything is not where it should be (if you can’t tell I like things in there place and this has been difficult to say the least).
- Psalm 5:2 – Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray.
I’ve had days of crying, literally, out to God with questions, doubts and concerns, but hey I had those in Phoenix too. It wasn’t like I was expecting Kenya to be any different in that regards. It just seems to me more difficult because I’m totally out of my comfort zone…kids and friends I love back in Phoenix not here where I can call them for a cup of coffee or sit down with pizza and a movie.
- John 16:33 – …In this world you will have trouble…
But I thank God each and every day because He continues to meet our basic needs (through the support of those He calls to help)…we have never gone to bed hungry, we have a bed to sleep in and He’s even meeting some not so basic needs like a table to sit at and do this blog post.
- Luke 12:29-31 – And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.
I think I may be getting a little used to the giant bugs too…yeah, right!
