One of my favorite lines from A Bug’s Life is
…that’s our lot in life. It’s not a lot, but it’s our life.
Every once in awhile I feel this way. I wake up and just for a moment think I’m back in Phoenix, Arizona. But then the realization hits me that I’m in Tala, Kenya and I wonder…is this my life?
Well of course it is because I’m livin’ it and God eases my mind back to Him and the purpose and plan He has for me. Not that I have it all figured out, mind you, but a small window of visibility is in front of me. Yes I am in Tala…Kenya…Africa! Yes I am here for a reason…to show God’s love. Yes it may seem difficult at times…bugs to say the least. But when I see a child smile when he receives a new uniform or a mother light up when we take her some eggs (both forms of showing God’s love) I know it’s my “lot in life” and to me it doesn’t feel like it’s “not a lot”. As a matter of fact it feels like everything, huge, enormous…God is bigger than I can ever imagine!
You make springs gush forth in the valleys;
they flow between the hills;
they give drink to every beast of the field;
the wild donkeys quench their thirst.
Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell;
they sing among the branches.
From your lofty abode you water the mountains;
the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work.You cause the grass to grow for the livestock
and plants for man to cultivate,
that he may bring forth food from the earth
and wine to gladden the heart of man,
oil to make his face shine
and bread to strengthen man’s heart. Psalm 104:10-15 (ESV)
And because God is so big I know it’s ok for me to go to Him with my questions, “is this it?”, “is this what I’m supposed to be doing?” because He knows me and understands my every thought and doesn’t expect me to be perfect before asking Him – “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 (ESV)
Hey it’s my lot in life, but thank God He’s in it, no thank God He’s all of it because that’s a lot!
