The other day I was woken up by the sound of Peter and Kilonzo trying to start the school van.  As you can see from the photo, the van is parked on Gideon’s compound every night and that morning it had been parked right outside our bedroom window –

I heard them try once, twice, three times, four times…the fifth time it started then quickly stopped.  I said a quick prayer that it would start because if the van doesn’t start Gideon has to call people to see if they can help shuttle the kids (at a price of course).

This photo is with the kids from Mercy but this is what it looks like if Roy (the truck owner) helps Nice View students get to school.

Peter and Kilonzo tried a few more times until finally it started and stayed on.  I thanked God and also prayed they would make it the three trips to gather all the students and get them to school.   Praying too they have enough petrol (gas) for the van…Tala has been out of petrol since Monday.  Chuck and Nick took a quick trip to a neighboring village (Ruai) to get petrol in the truck and 4 jugs of petrol for the van, but will it last?  Not sure when petrol will be here so it’s a daily struggle and prayer…will it make it, not only for petrol purposes but just basic mechanical functioning.

The van has rolled the odometer three times, a tire came off while transporting kids (thankfully no one was hurt) and a couple weeks ago the body had to be reinforced to the frame…they were afraid it would fall off!  Needless to say it is a very old van!
