1 John 2:15-17 (The Message)

Don’t love the world’s ways. (attaching myself to something of this world that it becomes everything to me) Don’t love the world’s goods. (power, recognition, cars, etc.) Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. (if I love/attach myself to something other than God I will attempt to get that something by any means) Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way (guilty) , wanting everything for yourself (guilty), wanting to appear important (or appear needed) —has nothing to do with the Father (but everything to do with the world). It just isolates you from him (putting my full attention on that something and basically forgetting God) . The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity (stuff disintegrates, people die, cars break down, power is fleeting but love is always fresh, always kind, always available through Jesus Christ and that kind of love is not the worlds way…it’s eternal).

Just my 2 cents worth on a verse I recently read.
