“The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.” Matthew 13:20-21
That verse in itself tells me that if I don’t encounter “trouble or persecution…because of the word” that I have most likely fallen away,. Do you know how easy it would be to get on a plane and head back to my comfortable life in the US? No more giant bugs, no more mice, no more hands outstretched to us for help, no more being stared at, no more missing my kids, no more telling people no for the umpteenth time, no more wondering where/when funds will come in to buy food for the kids.
But leaving now, against the will of God, would mean I have no depth in my faith or in God Himself. I look back over the past few months I’ve been here in Kenya and see the storm God led me through…my journal entries have gone from “get me out of here” to “help me continue here, help me persevere, help me do Your will”.
God has a ton of work still to do in me but until He calls me home I will continue to live by the words of Dory from Finding Nemo…just keep swimming!
Ah Dory, spiritual words of wisdom 🙂
