We don’t do what we do for thanks, a pat on the back or recognition…God is the reason.  With that said however I am human and a nice, thoughtful thank you would be nice once in awhile.

We’ve had guardians tell us we should just continue paying for their child’s schooling although the student is not putting in the effort to even get above a D+.  No ‘thank you for the help you’ve given over the past couple of years’…just keep giving without asking any questions or any expectations.

Students (the same ones getting D’s) have told us if we don’t pay for their school fees they won’t be able to attend school….Really?  Do you think every single child in Kenya has someone sponsoring them to attend school?  No, there are parents/guardians who struggle to keep their child in school.  I understand it is extremely hard but by God’s grace it can be done.  It’s easier however to have someone just pay for it without having to do anything for it.

Kids get to secondary school and are exposed to “name brands”.  Yes marketing tactics are alive and well here in Kenya.  The kids want the expensive name brand lotion because their friends have it when before all they were using was vaseline.  Again, no thanks for shopping and spending thousands of shillings on school supplies (when you are shopping for so many it adds up).

Being pursued on a daily basis to give seems to empty me out emotionally.  Just today I received 2 text messages from 2 different phone numbers saying “call me”…no name, I don’t have either of these numbers in my address book and the norm is they want me to call them so they can ask for money.

When that bad attitude starts to set in is when I look to God (hopefully looking to Him happens quicker and quicker) and remember it is Him I do this for and He will fill me back up.  I ask for wisdom on how to deal with the constant “give me” and attempt not to pray “give me” to God but say a heartfelt thank you.
