Yea that was being a bit sarcastic…sorry.  The month is about to end meaning another school term is about to begin (the last for this school year) and the monthly food purchases must be made.

What’s involved with that you ask?  Well let me fill you in on a little slice of my life, if you don’t mind!

First this is pretty much how my desk/office will look for the next couple of days:

lists on the left…partial shopping on the right

Each term when the kids come home for break they are required (within 2 days of arriving home) to give me a list of items they’ll need for the next term.  I have put this responsibility on them over this past year…making them think about what they need for the term instead of me trying to figure it out.  They’ve done quite well, there are a few items they forget, but overall they are doing a good job.  And we are getting it down to more of a science (i.e. they use x amount of toilet paper per month) which helps with budgeting purposes.  That list of shopping is now being organized to drop off at Sunny Lucky for filling.

Also included in the shopping lists are items the kids need from the market (i.e. school uniform).  This means finding out prices of stuff (you can’t just call a store, they are basically kiosks) and then getting the kids to the market to get the items.

Then for food purchases Ann writes out a monthly menu plus a list of items and their amounts required to fulfill that menu.  I then go through the menu to make sure things are ok (keeping the budget within limits).  This too gets put onto a list to take to Sunny Lucky for filling.

It’s times like these I am so very thankful for our friend Sunil (he owns Sunny Lucky).  He has been such a great help in making this part of the ministry easier.

Now I’m off to organize some more 🙂
