Some days just get away from me and before I know it days have gone by without a blog post.
It’s been busy to say the least. Getting 8 secondary students into school, dealing with primary students (teachers are on strike) and other “situations”. I mentioned in a previous post about a pastor literally stealing money from guardians of our kids at C4KK. These guardians were already in a tough position as they could not care for their child/grandchild/niece/nephew, etc. anyway and now this so called pastor tells them they have to chip in because C4KK is doing so much already. Thankfully we found out and Peter (our social worker) was able to set the record straight with them. That in itself was emotionally draining and frustrating. We are praying this particular situation is finished.
I was sadden today as I talked with a secondary student. We were trying to figure out to get his school fees to him. There is a system here where you can send funds via mPesa system (it goes through the bank and delivers “funds” to the other persons phone and they simply go to an mPesa agent to receive the actual funds) but this kid was unable to find one person who he could trust to receive the funds and get them to him. That makes me sad and angry at the same time.
An MP (member of parliament) stated and was quoted a few days ago in the Daily Nation (Kenya’s newspaper) as saying the 851,000/ksh (approx. $11,000) they make per month (not including their “allowances”) is too little and compared it to making peanuts. In the village a person can make around 4000/ksh per month (approx. $50/month). Seems this MP has no clue how his country is living outside his own selfish greed. That makes me angry.
A secondary student (outside C4KK) has had the opportunity of receiving assistance for his education but has decided instead to lie about his situation at school and therefore is being dropped from the sponsorship program. He had been in trouble at school (being expelled) but told us he was not in trouble while the school has informed us he will not be allowed to return. That saddens me.
So that’s a very brief recap of the past few days. Sorry I’m not as diligent as I’d like to be with the blog lately, there are times I just can’t seem to write the words to express how I’m feeling. Your prayers are appreciated and may the Lord bless you with an ever deepening relationship with Him.
