Today is an official holiday here in Kenya….swearing in of the new president. This means the kids are home from school today but they are being kept busy. How you ask? Let me fill you in.
Last week a young woman come to the office and asked to intern as a social worker with the kids. As many of you know Peter is our on-staff social worker so we asked his opinion on the situation and it was agreed to have Fridah join the staff as an intern.
She’s young, 24, and reminds me of my own daughters who are around that age (ok don’t shoot me I honestly can’t remember how old my girls are unless I sit down and do the math!). She is keeping most of the kids busy this morning doing school work, writing letters, coloring.
While others were washing clothes I was very happy to see Fridah supervising the boys as they emptied out their dresser drawers to organize them! Later in the morning many of the kids will help prepare lunch with Fridah and Joyce (our assistant matron) because Ann has gone to her mothers home who is having surgery. Then perhaps we’ll have a movie this afternoon…that is if Fridah says it’s ok 🙂
