Last week the slab was poured. This is the roof for the first floor/floor for the second floor….for our US friends, or roof for the ground floor/floor for the first floor….for our Kenyan friends!
It took some days to prepare the surface but then it was pour day:
Foremen checking out the progress
Check out this guys footwear….he covered his shoes with cement bags! Very ingenious!
No shovel needed, simply scoop the cement into the bucket with your hands!
Once they started working they were like a well oiled machine…until petrol ran out, then it was an hour wait for more!
Making sure everything is prepared for the pour
Sand guys hauled buckets of sand and dumped it into the mixer, cement guys poured cement into the mixer, water guy put in the correct amount of water into the mixer and ballast guys poured ballast into the mixer. Then the mixer guy dumped the mixer and guys filled the tubs on the pulley system to be taken to the top. Once at the top, cement was dumped and guys shoveled it into wheelbarrows and dispersed to where it was needed!
Checking out the view from the top:
Now they are working on the veranda (overhang for walking around the home without walking in the rain) and putting in windows:
