As departure time from Phoenix draws closer it seems my emotional state is a bit rocky, to say the least. Sunday I woke up knowing it was going to be “one of those days”. Now I’ve gone through other emotional days and I know from looking back God got me through it so I’m confident He will do the same now.
A friend told me “God has your back” and you know what I believe that with all my heart but my emotions continue to flood me with tears. Then God reminded me of a couple of things:
1) Jesus wept for His friend Lazarus, even though He knew in just minutes Lazarus would be raised from the dead! Jesus knows the emotional turmoil which is going on in me.
2) As I contemplate being away from friends and family again I know Jesus understands that emotion too. He was separated from His Father (physically yes but connected by the mystery of the trinity) and just as God was with Jesus, I know God is with me. He is Immanuel!
3) He gets it! For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16
So when friends tell me “God has your back” or “God will see you through this” these are not simply words being thrown out, they are spoken in love and by faith I believe them!
