4:45 am – wake up (sort of) and get coffee going for our 5 am skype meeting with Saved By God’s Grace board of directors in Phoenix (it was their 7 pm last night so they were drinking ice tea and having dessert I believe!)
7 am – finish skype meeting….absolutely no interruptions with electricity or internet, Praise God! It was great seeing you all!
7:30 am – leisurely breakfast and second cup of coffee – also seriously think about going back to bed!
8:30 am – Chuck goes outside to check on plan of the day for the workers while I clean up breakfast dishes.
9 am – electricity goes off, but I’m so happy we got to skype this morning!
9:30 am – continue reading Insurgent because hey electricity is off so no internet, no baking, no hot water 🙂
{there may have been some short napping in this time frame too!}
11 am – go outside to check on what’s happening outside and video tape our first “mission moment” for Desert Breeze – you all will have to wait until Don gets it (which I’m hoping to upload tomorrow morning) and passes it on to you!
12:30 pm – go chat with Ann about menus and market purchases (nothing major just filling you in on the day)
1 pm – have lunch – rice with potatoes and carrots which she made differently and it was delicious!
2 pm – turn on computer (still no electricity) and get some information for Bosco to transfer to his computer
3:30 pm – still no electricity but Bosco needs his computer and printer so we turn on the generator which makes our cat, Spunk, go crazy with the noise thinking something is coming to get her kittens. I move her living space (ok, a box with a blanket) to a quieter area in the house and she settles down.
4:30 pm -generator is still running and the house is filling with fumes (cough, cough) but they still need the generator and heck I might as well get this blog post out, or at least begin writing it and hopefully get it published!
4:35 pm – they turn off the generator before I can get this blog post published but I turn on the internet from my phone and use it as a hotspot to upload the Spunk picture. Then I get a message from my phone saying my internet is low. I just checked it this morning so not sure if the message is correct but will shut down anyway and get this post out later.
5 pm – talk with a student we helped through secondary school who doesn’t live at C4KK and graduated from Form 4 last year. He is waiting for the results of his final (results won’t be published until late February, crazy system I know but that’s what we have) and electricity comes back on! I was hopeful it would!
This isn’t a typical day since honestly electricity has been pretty steady (other than every night for the past week at 7:30 pm it will go off for a brief moment but come back on and then every 10 minutes or so for about an hour do the same thing…why you ask?….we don’t ask that question anymore!)
We are so thankful though for the donor who helped us get the generator which will run the entire compound’s lights (or printer/computer as needed and believe me, everyone runs to get phones plugged in to charge because you just don’t know when electricity will be back on!)
I’m hopeful electricity will come back on this evening, but if it doesn’t I’ll be in bed early because of the early start! Update-guess no early bed time for me 🙂
