Since C4KK has tutoring for the kids throughout the week and they do not go to school on Saturday (like many students) they have chores instead…not sure if they’d rather be in school!  But this gives them the opportunity to learn how to care for the shamba, how to clean a room, etc.  Basic life skills are learned.

Recently Ben and Elijah were looking at the shamba and realized many of the tomatoes were dying before being harvested.  They thought through the process and suggested the vines be “staked” so the plants are off the ground.  Last weekend the kids, under Peter’s supervision, did just that to the tomato plants.  And the kids didn’t need persuading to help, they all (except Mercy who needed to complete some studies, but the rest agreed it was ok for her not to help with the tomatoes) pitched in to get the job done.

This weekend they are out in the shamba weeding and watering.

kids-working-in-shambaLove the initiative Ben and Elijah took on improving the tomato situation and love the rest of the kids helping out without fuss 🙂
