As a mom to two beautiful young ladies I can remember when they were little dressing up in their Disney princess outfits or trying on a tiara.  Or my two boys who were definitely rough and tumble but grew into young me with hearts full of compassion. They were and always will be my princes’ and princesses, so it makes a moms heart sad to see so many hurting children in the world who are not treated as princes’ and princesses (sons and daughters of the King).

One of our team members (Peter) tells of one girls story.

She was told by her uncles to either agree to an early marriage (she would have been around 14 years old) or “never step her feet in her maternal family’s soil.”  They basically threw her out but thanks to her sponsor she is now attending secondary school!

Another team member (Joseck) tells the tale of two brothers.

Jared (16 years old) and Joshua (15 years old) are in 7th grade.  The school sent them home (2 weeks ago) “to get seven tins of dry maize each.  The school alleges that last year they had ate free meals therefore until they contribute to their school lunch program they have no business staying in class.”  Where is the “mercy on kids whose life is so miserable that they can hardly comprehend how to get the next meal?”

Joseck goes on to say, “Living in this ruins they call home with barely any protection.  [This] is all they have got in terms of beddings.  They have no blanket.”

Lucia is a grandmother taking care of her 8 grandchildren.  Joseck and his wife, Catherine, visited them recently with donated clothes and what a blessing they were (and are to us!)

Jephrice, who is a widow with 7 children, also received a new roof.  Before construction though it had begun to rain and Catherine and Joseck helped “put them to sleep as it rained almost flooding their house while their mum was away.”

These children are princes’ and princesses in God’s eyes and He holds them so very close to His heart….shouldn’t we be the image of God’s love to them?  Please prayerfully consider becoming a partner with us as we love our neighbors in Kenya.
