There are days when the harsh, ugly reality of what is happening in Kenya hits me right between the eyes. My heart aches so badly it’s almost a physical feeling. Believe me, there isn’t a day which goes by I don’t know the reality in Kenya of children suffering from jiggers, moms sleeping on dirt floors, no food in the home, grandmothers begging for a meal, and this list could go on but some days it feels like a punch to the gut.
Today was one of those days. I received an update from our friend Joseck who was removing jiggers from children at a local school and the following photos continue to occupy my mind. It’s times like these when I fall to the scripture in Romans 8:26-27 which states:
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
Honestly I don’t know what to pray for. Healing, yes. Recovery, yes. Strength for our partners, yes. In the big picture I’d love for an honest, trustworthy, corruption-free government to step up and take care of their citizens but I know only the love of God can overcome any evil.
That’s why I beg you to keep our volunteers and partners, who are diligently putting their hand to the plow to do what the Lord has called them to do, in prayer. But you know what? It not only takes spiritual support but financial as well to treat jiggers, repair a home, dig a well and pay for school fees, unfortunately many people see money as a taboo subject. However, it’s needed and I’m asking for your prayerful consideration in joining us in this endeavor to bring some relief to hurting and suffering individuals.
Now onto the photos. Some of them may be tough to see but it’s reality for many in Kenya.
Again, please consider becoming a financial partner with us as Saved By God’s Grace, through Caring for Kenya’s Kids (our organization on the ground in Kenya), works to bring medical, educational, housing and food assistance to widows and orphans; along with a loving hand and a message of hope.
