Hello friends. Before I get into what exactly “Chapati for Christmas” is all about I’d like to update you on a personal item. Chuck and I have officially moved from sunny Phoenix to, as of this very moment, rainy Michigan! We are already dipping into the low 30’s at night and I know before I’m totally prepared it will be snowing! Chuck and I grew up here so it won’t be a surprise, but we haven’t dealt with snow in over 20 years.
With our move some of you may be wondering what that means for the ministry….absolutely nothing! Things continue on in Kenya through your donations and you’ll continue to see updates here on the blog and/or through Chuck’s email updates. As always we appreciate your support and if you ever have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us!
Ok, now for the chapati….
We are blessed to have this beautiful view with the local wildlife often stopping by!
First let me tell you what chapati is if you don’t already know, and for those who have visited the ministry in Kenya I bet you are missing it, aren’t you!? Chapati is similar to fry bread. It’s a special treat for Kenyans but often times it is costly for families to get the ingredients. During our time living in Kenya we had chapati with cabbage, green grams and skuma…all delicious! And as “sweet toothed” Americans we had chapati with butter and sugar sprinkled on it….delicious! Each time we had chapati it was a family event. All the kids were involved in making it and it seems almost a tradition to pass down how it’s made to the next generation. We were so happy to be a part of that tradition with our Kenyan kids.
With chapati being a special treat, Christmas is that special time of year when families hope to celebrate with this traditional item in their homes. While families all over Kenya will sit down for a meal with chapati, the people Ben serves living with AIDs will not…they simply can not afford it.
Through your help we are hoping to change that for many families.
Ben is attempting to get funds to assist 350 families (mostly single moms and their kids living with AIDs) to have chapati this Christmas. It costs $7 per family to get the ingredients…can you help?
If you are able to give please visit our website’s donation page. Donating online is simple and secure by clicking on the “Donate Now” button. Once there please allocate “other” and write “Chapati” in the comment section.
We will use the funds to get and distribute the ingredients to make chapati during the month of December to the families who are registered for the program. If we are fortunate and go over the required amount, we will add families to the program (there are many more out there who can not afford to have chapati at Christmas in Kenya).
Thank you for your prayerful consideration.
