Dark picture, I know, but I didn’t want to distract the students with a flash from the camera. Yesterday Saved By God’s Grace presented our kids in Kenya to three, 5th grade classes at Northwest Christian School. They are starting a pen-pal program with students at Nice View Academy.
It was so neat hearing the questions/comments these 5th graders had for us – “were you in danger?”, “what did you eat?” (had to tell them about the intestines!), “they don’t seem so different than us”, “why is their hair so short?” – I could go on because all three classes filled their entire classroom time with questions!
We did this pen-pal program last school year with another group of 5th graders at Northwest Christian School and it was a great success. The kids, from both schools, asked questions of each other like “do you have a pet?”, “what’s pizza?”, “what sport do you play?”. And the children from Nice View were able to give the students here a glimpse into their daily life in Kenya – “I usually go to school daily to get food”, “people are struggling alot to get food”, or “I am working very hard in my studies looking forward to a bright future.”
Thanks kids for your enthusiasm for Kenya and the kids at Nice View. I pray you have a wonderful experience meeting and learning about your new pen-pal in Tala, Kenya!
I’m so glad I found this site…Keep up the good work I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say GREAT blog. Thanks,
