Finally able to get to a blog post….not that I didn’t have good intentions of getting one posted but with electricity issues, internet issues and just plain hecticness I just didn’t get one posted.  Now’s my chance 🙂

This may not be in order because honestly my memory is not that great so I’m not sure which day was which, but here you go anyway with last weeks happenings.

toilets

I know I wrote last week about the toilets and gate, but it’s worth repeating.  The kids are loving the toilets and after a little talk are not abusing the toilet paper anymore!

hardware

We found a nearby hardware where we could purchase the colors we wanted to paint our gate, that was an exciting moment!

pizza-delivery

Looks like Chuck is delivering pizza…unfortunately not, he’s bringing painting supplies to the gate.

painting-the-gate-(19)

Chuck and I painted the “down” gate (the gate farthest away from the children’s home).  We finished approximately 2 hours before the school next door was released for the day and when we left that evening we noticed kids had scratched along the letters with a stone, thus putting large grooves in the fresh paint….<sigh>, at least I knew it needed another coat or two but not sure how it will look with the tracks in the paint.

breakfast

Then one day we had to have a mechanic look at the truck to tell us what parts we needed.  So while the mechanic (in Tala) was checking things out we had breakfast at our local chicken ‘n chips place.  Not bad breakfast either.  The next day Chuck went to Nairobi to get the truck fixed but ended up having to leave it there and return the next day….Kenya.

lunch-with-joyce-(1) new-haircut-(3)

Since I was spending the day with Joyce (what a blessing and treat that day was!) Chuck was able to hitch a ride with us into Nairobi where he stayed with the truck all day but was able to bring it home.  I on the other hand spent a marvelous day with Joyce having a yummy lunch (spare ribs!) and I got my hair cut!  I wasn’t nervous until he literally took a hold of my hair and whacked off 10 inches or so to begin the hair cut!  But he knew what he was doing and I ended up with a nice style…thanks Jeff!

animal-shelter-materialWe received funds to get material to work on the animal shelter and those materials were delivered during the week and construction will continue on Monday…oh, today, sorry!

coffee-maker-plug-(2)

I have been enjoying fresh brewed coffee the past few mornings thanks to a friend for giving us a coffee maker!  I was a bit upset and I just can’t seem to get into the “Kenyan mode of thinking” sometimes.  We purchased the coffee maker without opening the box to examine it (mistake!).  When I opened it up that evening at home to get it ready for my first cup of morning coffee, I noticed the plug was a bit different (the above photo shows the plug which came on the coffee maker-top, and a normal Kenyan plug-bottom).  Boy did that upset me, you mean they sell appliances in Kenya that you can’t use in Kenya!?  Yup they sure do.  Thankfully wherever that plug comes from is 240 volt (so it’s similar to Kenya) and Chuck was able to switch out the plug and put on a Kenyan plug.  Now it works and I’m enjoying fresh brewed coffee…yummy!

mission-home-plans-(2) at-nguluni-petrol-station

We also met with the engineer, Joseph, to discuss the plans he has drawn up for the mission home.  Today he and Chuck are going over changes but they are getting the specs on what needs to be done to begin the foundation!  And that’s just me listening to the conversation, putting in my 2 cents worth from time to time!

One of our boys had to have his eyes checked, he has allergies and needed some drops.  After a few days he was better but may need to have glasses…he said it’s not too bad and wants to wait until he is on break to have an eye exam.

We found out fiber optics have been laid along the main road past the children’s home.  Sunil (owner of Sunny Lucky in Tala where we purchase food for C4KK and a good friend) is getting connected at his shop and told us about it.  We may look into that for connection at the children’s home….how exciting would that be!?

Class 8 graduates are still waiting for their calling letters from secondary schools.  They need to get back to school to keep their minds busy!

Oh and last night our cat, Spunk, had her kittens….three beautiful kittens!  So we were up until around midnight with her while she gave birth.  Being a first time mom she was pretty nervous but she seems to have fallen right into the motherly mode!

Boy I can’t think of anything else that happened last week but I’m sure I’ve forgotten something.  Thanks for sticking around after my absence for a few days!
