We are so proud of this young man!  Kevin received the highest score for Class 8 exams in his school.  He scored 385 out of 500 and to put it in perspective the top three students in the country received a score of 430, so he did very, very well.

His school awarded him with a new phone for his achievement:

Because of his high score Kevin was accepted into one of the national schools here in Kenya.  Secondary schools are broken down into three categories, district, provincial and national (with national being the higher ranked school).

He also received a scholarship from Equity Bank!  They are taking all the recipients of the scholarship to a very nice hotel and treating them to a few days of fun but they are also appointing a mentor to each student to help them throughout their secondary school years.    Equity Bank will also have workshops for the students during their school breaks with training on how to manage their money, stay focused on studies and other such subjects.

Before dropping Kevin off for his few days of fun and training we had lunch:

Today during lunch I asked Kevin if he was ready to go back to school (they’ve been out of school now for a little more than a month).  He said he certainly is, “my mind gets bored if I’m not reading or someone isn’t teaching me something.”  He also said he appreciated all the advice his teachers, C4KK family and sponsor have given him and he understands that God has blessed him with this chance to attend a national school.

What an inspiration Kevin has been, and continues to be, to his brothers and sisters at C4KK.   Kevin is a total orphan, meaning both mother and father have died.  He was being taken care of by his elderly grandmother and his grandfather is disabled.  After being taken to another children’s home (before C4KK) he was not enrolled in school for one year.  Then when C4KK became involved he jumped right into his education and had no problems catching up and graduating with his classmates.

Please pray for Kevin as he begins this new chapter in his life and that he continue to show God’s glory and love to his fellow students.
