What a night! We went to bed last night to the sound of rain, ah peaceful. Then we got up around 10 to use the bathroom and I noticed the kitchen rug was askew….those cats must have had some rough housing, is what I thought. Then I stepped foot into the kitchen and had water around my ankles!
Now, just so you know the red/brown water is NOT what you think. They’ve been doing landscaping and brought in red soil and that’s what came into the house!
The shower also backed up from the amount of rain and the diversion of water flow because of the soil which was brought in.
So we started bailing water and we were missing dad’s wet vac! Wet vac’s here are called “Chuck & Tammy”!
Then the electricity went out! But we kept at it even in the dark, no electricity needed to fill up buckets and dump outside!
Today we have workers here tearing out the bottom portion of the wall (water was literally flowing inside from between the foundation and the wall) and filling with water proof cement. We are praying it doesn’t rain for a bit in order for the cement to take hold.
We have also set up a temporary kitchen, just in case!
It was certainly a crazy, long night but we are so thankful for:
* the area which flooded is a step down from the rest of the house so the flood was contained to a smaller area
* finding the flood before it could overtake the step and reach the rest of the house
* ability to bail water by candlelight (romantic, right!?)
* keeping a sense of humor throughout the ordeal….bailing until 3am and squishy toes!
* having a friend to call this morning to come fix the issue before the next heavy rain
* having all that water sure makes for a clean floor, including under the frig and stove!
I can hear the thunder now so we are praying this fix works!
