Do you remember Friday’s blog post about being out of electricity for three days? Well it came back on at 4:35pm that evening, thank you Jesus!
We returned to C4KK Saturday morning with the good intention of showing a movie. Around 9:30 am we received a call from the power company guy who fixed the problem on Friday. He was talking with our electrician (Richard) and asking for “kitu kidogo” (something small….in layman’s terms, a bribe) for simply doing HIS JOB! Richard told him he would have to talk with the “mzungu” (white guy) executive director of the children’s home. When he heard this he told Richard that he couldn’t ask him because he would call the supervisor and that would get him fired. When Chuck got on the phone (Chuck is the mzungu!) the repairman simply asked if the power was on, no mention of kitu kidogo, and said goodbye.
Call it coincidence but 5 minutes after this call and not receiving his bribe the electricity went out again! Now, it was the entire area so I highly doubt he had anything to do with it but we all had a good laugh about it! And by the time we left, around 6pm, there still was no electricity.
Meaning no movie but we did have a very good staff meeting and I finished the veranda wall….pictures will be forthcoming when we have electricity and I can upload the photos to my computer!
