Today I’m going to relay a story to you in regards to a medical procedure and process here in Kenya. This is a case C4KK Benevolence is involved with (you can read part of her story here).
“They cut a piece of my flesh to be taken to the lab in town to test for cancer, but i have no one to take it to the lab in town and i cannot leave the hospital. Now the meat is rotten” she said.
The lady is in depression, lonely and hurting, but i know God will make a way out for her.
Lucy has one more challenge. As she left the hospital, they cut a piece of meat from her posterior to be taken to Aga Khan hospital for test to check if she has cancer. And if there is cancer in her body, it be dealt with at it’s early stage. The test costs Ksh 5000. Her elderly mother carry’s water for people inorder to support her family. She earns less than a dollar daily. Lucy says that if she is given a small boost, she can do business and help her mother pay house rent and buy food, clothes etc. Out of curiosity i asked her how much she needed to start business and she said if she got $150 she would be doing something meaningful with her life and be able to support her baby boy who also is hiv positive. She lost her seven year old daughter to pneumonia early this year. Keep her in your prayers.
C4KK Benevolence received funds (that in itself is a God story….briefly, the Benevolence fund was empty, Chuck cried out to God to show him how to move forward with all the needs and no funds, next day someone donates….Praise God, He always provides for what He wants done!) in order for Lucy to have another sample taken….this time there were enough funds to pay extra to have the piece of “meat” preserved so it will stay viable for at least a week. She will have the sample tested and we are praying for good news.
Now, I have to tell you I’ve had a lot of medical procedures/tests done and I’ve never been asked to pay extra to have a medical sample preserved or been asked to take my own sample to the lab. This system we must deal with here is frustrating, infuriating, corrupt and seems to have no regard for the people it should be helping. I must say however we do have a friend, a doctor, who genuinely wants to help and he gets frustrated by the system too. Thankfully he has helped us and worked with us in many situations; personally, with the kids and others through Benevolence. And I’m praying there are others out there, specifically in the medical field, who genuinely do care and want to help.
