Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34).

Meditating on this passage I believe as we go through life we are aware of the choices we make and the actions we take but we don’t comprehend, or are blind to the eternal consequences of those choices or actions.  Hence, we don’t know what we are doing.

I no longer have the excuse of being blind, or not knowing what I’m doing, because the law shows me where I fail (Romans 7:7) but I have hope since I live under grace (For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.  Ephesians 2:8).  Because of grace I am no longer blind but those who have not accepted God’s grace are still blind and “know not what they are doing.”

Lord forgive me my failures in not living out Your will and I pray as the tax collector (Luke 18) ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
