Today is a national holiday called Mashujaa Day celebrated on October 20th and is a holiday to collectively honor all those who contributed towards the struggle for Kenya’s independence.

Now please don’t confuse this with Madaraka Day, another national holiday, which is celebrated on June 1 and commemorates the day that Kenya attained internal self-rule in 1963, preceding full independence from the United Kingdom on 12 December 1963.

Or not to be confused with Jamhuri Day, yet another independence national holiday, celebrated on December 12 to officially mark the date of Kenya’s establishment as a republic on 12 December, 1964.

Most of the kids had no idea what exactly Mashujaa celebrated, but they did know there was no school today!
