Many times the truth is simply an ugly matter. I do believe the truth shall set you free but that doesn’t make the truth any less ugly. Please see the beauty of the outcome and not the ugliness of what these two girls has gone through.
One child was abandoned by a sister who was taking care of her. After visiting another family member she arrived home to an empty house. The only possessions she had was what she had packed for her visit. She stayed with a neighbor that night then came to C4KK. A few days later a boy came to the door with a backpack for her and she asked “when did you get back?” Peter, our social worker, investigated the situation and found it would not be in the best interest of the child for her to return home. It was decided she would stay at C4KK until she graduates from class 8 (at the end of 2015) and then return to family living in another location.
The other child’s story, as told to us, had been abducted by a gang, sold to another gang and used for sex until we were able to rescue her. Plus we found out we hadn’t been told half of what this poor child had gone through (for example, thrown in a ditch after being used for sex and urinated on).
So if I had to choose between having the truth be so ugly, horrible and downright inhuman or having a nice, neat, beautiful truth, I’d take the truth wrapped up in a bow. But alas we do not get to choose what is truth. It’s there for us to accept or not and with accepting the truth we can begin to help others heal in a way that will guide them towards an open and honest relationship with their Savior, Jesus Christ.
I’m thankful for our social worker who knows how to talk with the kids to help them heal. I’m thankful for your support which allows us to continue to help hurting children. I’m thankful for a broken heart which spurs me on. I’m thankful the children we have here at C4KK are learning what it means to be part of a loving family.
