Well, I’m going to make an honest statement here….I like the idea of being a writer but admit I’m not very good at it. I also admit to admiring Tarrin’s (my daughter) ability to express her thoughts in writing, keep going girl! Anyway why tell you this? Some of this post will be written in the words of the people who took the following photos. In my opinion, they say it best.
Our friend, Ben, was recently in the Bondeni slum distributing food, soap, disinfectants and pain meds to many who are battling a combination of HIV/AIDS and cancer. He also paid “a little here, a little there” of school fees of children who had been kicked out of school for not paying school fees (free primary education? Ha!).
“Most of the student’s have their parent’s so sick and bedridden some in very bad shape that I can’t share their pics here.”
“I am so glad that someone gave to enable us make a difference in other people’s lives.”
The second March food distribution in Luanda went well. Our friend, Joseck, distributes food every two weeks to needy families.
“Glory be to God its another day to serve God’s people. We have started distributing foodstuff early so we can attend to other cases of children with needs for school supplies.”
“A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.” This woman received a little food.
“I went to where he was and he cried alot. He was to go home on foot (7kms or so) because he had no transport and he had about 10kgs of porridge flour given to him by someone at the hospital. I first took him to a nearby food kiosk and bought him some food. The boy was really hungry and he ate all the food on his plate. Then I hired a taxi to the slums and as he alighted from the cab he asked me to bring him something good of which I asked him what he wanted and he said a simple wrist watch will bless his heart. And I think some more food will too.”
“See! This is what the love of God and caring can do to the hopeless. Thank you all of you who prayed, gave sacrificially and my friend and brother,Chuck who put up a spirited campaign to get this far. Anastasia is expected back in hospital after 10 days for Biopsy results. GOD BLESS YOU!!”
“This class 5 (fifth grade) boy came to our house this evening and fainted. We prayed with him and Pauline thought it was wise we give him some food when he came back to himself. The boy was starving and badly needed some food. He looked sickly too, but I am glad he ate a plate full of food. Then he told us that his dad was recently hit by a car and died instantly leaving his mother with the burden of caring for eight children. We asked him to tell his mom to come pick some food from our house tomorrow. Praying.”
Terry (you can read her story here) was enrolled in school and she looks pretty happy with her new uniform!
