Chuck reads the Daily Nation (Kenya’s newspaper) just about everyday over the Internet. He keeps me informed of political issues – Ringera, director of Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission, quits and Hillary Clinton’s visit – to name a couple but he also passes on some interesting stories as well:
- Polygamy is legal but you have to inform your bride that you intend to marry other wives and she has to give her permission. (This one isn’t law – yet.)
- Sh2000 fine for blowing your nose in Nairobi without a handkerchief.
- Man divorces wife because she wets the bed.
Just those three stories alone could produce several blog posts!
The nose blowing seems, to me, to be such a small issue in matters of cleanliness (not that I think people should blow their noses without a tissue) but what about the mounds of garbage in and around the city and other parts of the country? What about the human waste running through Kibera? One commentary said nothing is more irritating than “hearing politicians, especially Cabinet ministers, pontificating at public rallies all over the country on what needs to be done to solve the country’s numerous problems. “Considering what we went through to elect them, their talk about what we need to do to move the country forward is simply annoying. That is exactly what we elected them to do. They shouldn’t tell us what they think should be done.” (article)
Last year as I interviewed students I heard all sorts of questions, suggestions, dreams and desires they have for their country. They see what is wrong and simply want to do what’s right!
…Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Matthew 11:25
These kids are Kenya’s future and God-willing they will implement change in their country. Please prayerfully consider supporting Saved By God’s Grace and be a part of The Change.
