It’s a common occurrence for Saved By God’s Grace/Caring for Kenya’s Kids to be asked to help someone be released from “hospital prison”.  What is hospital prison you ask?  Once a person has been treated at the hospital they receive a bill.  If that person is unable to pay, the hospital simply keeps them in the hospital until they can pay.  Guards stand at the doorways checking to see if you have a paid invoice.

The person is charged a daily rate and kept hostage.  If they couldn’t pay the original bill it’s unlikely they can come up with the extra for living at the hospital.  Also remember, normally the hospital doesn’t feed the person either, they must rely on well-wishers or family members to bring them food.

Here is one such instance:

Alice 17years old had been detained in hospital for two days after being discharged.she couldn’t raise the hospital bill. “Asante Mungu wangu, kwa rehema zako”,translated, ‘thank you my Lord for your grace’,Alice praised God when she was informed that the entire bill , Ksh.8,700 is paid was at liberty to walk out of hospital.
