You might get a nostalgic feeling from this photo, picturing a fun filled night of campfires. But this is Everlyn’s home with the cooking fire at night. There is no electricity so what light they have comes from this fire or a small lantern.
And this photo you might imagine a night sleeping under the stars, but this is the roof of Everlyn’s home. She doesn’t have the ability to rebuild to make it safer for her and her children so when it rains they must find a dry spot to huddle together until the rain passes.
The only people willing to help her are either men who want to inherit her, perhaps having her as a second, third or even fourth wife (it isn’t always the case but her children may become slaves at the home or literally thrown out to fend for themselves). Or the Muslim community said they may consider building her a home on the condition that she become a Muslim first.
In this video you can see the condition of the walls, which are falling down and not providing any security or shelter from the elements.
The cost for building a home is $1,500 and that usually includes various donated items, from building materials to labor. We encourage the community to be involved and help however they can. I pray those who assist whether through volunteering, donating materials or labor or financially contributing are blessed along with the families who are receiving a safe, comfortable place to live.
Saved By God’s Grace asks nothing from the families or individuals who receive help but through our friends in Kenya who are organizing these projects (along with our food programs, education assistance, jigger eradication programs, medical assistance and more) people are not only hearing the Gospel but seeing it in action!
Please consider donating to Save By God’s Grace and help spread the Good News through these programs.
