As we continue preparing for our move to Kenya we’ve had people ask if we are taking clothes (for the kids) back with us.  We learned from our first trip (March 2008 when we packed several boxes of clothes and shoes) that we could purchase (with your generous support) the same quality of clothes and shoes from the local market at very reasonable prices.  This not only saves the cost of shipping (which is now 50lbs for $150 on the airlines) but we can help the local economy in Tala and Eldama Ravine by buying from local vendors.

Many people may not realize it but some of our used clothing from here (that which doesn’t get sold at retailers like Savers or Goodwill etc.) gets shipped there.  That’s why we see kids in Old Navy!

While we are here in the states, however, we have had clothing donated to our daughter (Tarrin) for her downtown Phoenix homeless ministry.  One older gentleman, who is homeless, helps her each weekend set up the canopy and tables.  He told another volunteer that the two hours he spends with them (handing out water and bagels) are the only two hours he doesn’t feel homeless.  He feels loved, appreciated and part of the family – perhaps he sees a glimpse of God’s love in action during those two hours!  Amen!!

I pray the Holy Spirit will help me not just be a talker of my faith but a doer as the book of James says:

Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it? For instance, you come upon an old friend dressed in rags and half-starved and say, “Good morning, friend! Be clothed in Christ! Be filled with the Holy Spirit!” and walk off without providing so much as a coat or a cup of soup—where does that get you? Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense?  (The Message)

We feel strongly about letting everyone know the children’s needs and right now the ministry is at a financial low.  Funds are needed to continue feeding the kids.  As a matter of fact, Nice View Academy was unable to offer tutoring during December break because we did not have the money to feed all the kids.  Please consider a year-end donation or becoming a monthly supporter of Saved By God’s Grace.  But whether helping Saved By God’s Grace, another ministry, or your next door neighbor, when it comes to what we believe may we all be doers and not just talkers of our faith.
