Our daughter, Tarrin, heads a “Bagel Ministry” here in Phoenix, Arizona. She receives donated bagels, jalapenos, peanut butter, jelly, butter, lemonade and water. Every Sunday she packs the van with all the supplies and heads to an area of downtown Phoenix where many of the homeless hang out.
Most weekends she has a couple of volunteers helping, and a couple of the homeless have started pitching in to help also. She will read from her Bible, talk with people, pray with them and basically tell them (through her words and actions) that God is their provider, the one who can save them.
It’s been such a blessing though to see God provide for this ministry. One week she was out of jalapenos and didn’t have cash to purchase any (she is a student teacher with no salary and no other job). That week, before Sunday, someone donated 4 cases of jalapenos, that’s 16 jars! Another time she wanted to do a blanket drive. She prayed about it and the next Sunday a volunteer said the Lord had laid it on her heart to do a blanket drive at her place of employment! A few weeks later she had approximately 50 blankets to hand out!
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time. You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all his ways
and loving toward all he has made.Psalm 145: 15-17 (NIV)
God is working everywhere, we just have to be obedient and open to Him and the opportunities to love others that He presents to us each and every day.
