The saying here is “don’t chase time, let time chase you”. That’s a good saying but hard to live by after moving here from the go, go, go mentality of the US. However as each day proceeds and I’m still living out of a suitcase, my Internet connection at the house is terrible and we have to step outside our home to even talk with anyone on the phone I’m learning to not chase time. The house will be completed…eventually, the Internet connection is good at the Academy so we can always go there and thankfully it doesn’t snow here so standing outside to talk isn’t half bad.
During the times I start to feel sorry for myself the Lord directs my attention to our neighbor. Rose and her husband have 6 children all living together in an approximate 12’x15′ home with dirt floors, no electricity, no running water, outdoor latrine and outdoor cooking over a fire. During those “divert my attention” moments God continues to put my perspective in line with His vision and shows me no matter my life circumstances (how well or how bad I think they are) my heart is wicked, because I fall into the temptation of not being grateful for what He has provided, being prideful (‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men…Luke 18:11) or believing my particular burden is too heavy.
Therefore I will continue to trust that “…Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” (Hebrews 9:28) and I will wait for Him and attempt (by the strength and guidance of the Holy Spirit) to be obedient to what God has me do each day.
