I say this with humor since I am actually older than Chuck (only by a month mind you!)…but hey it’s a neat title for this farm post and believe me some days we feel very old!
Click HERE for a little background on how we got into farming and how you can help purchase land and drill a well which would enable (God-willing) for a crop to be harvested every month and a half. The food will help feed the kids and also employ local workers which in turn helps their families and the community.
Now it’s Old McDonald had a farm and a ‘city dwelling, unsure of anything related to farming but here I am right where God wants me to be’ wife! Here’s the process so far on the farm:
The land was scouted –
manure was put on the farm –then planting began –
Notice just about every step along the way is done by hand – the only machinery we had (so far) is the rented tractor to till the soil and the truck to bring in the manure. Our prayers are the rains will be blessed ones and make this harvest bountiful…it’s total dependence on God because we cannot make it rain!
“…we worked to take care of ourselves so we would be an example for you to follow. When we were with you, we gave you this rule: “Anyone who refuses to work should not eat.”” 2 Thessalonians 3:9-10
Farming is a basic way of seeing reliance on God’s provision and that can be a lesson for everyone who sees the farm, “an example for you to follow.”
UPDATE: This is the same area Chuck ran into a cobra! So needless to say I will only be visiting the farm from the safety of our truck. No problems though, just an adrenaline-rush type of run-in and one Chuck won’t soon forget.
