Today I simply wanted to give you a glimpse of a daily routine around here…washing dishes.

Honestly, I normally didn’t mind doing dishes, especially with a crowd in the kitchen helping!  We did have a dish washer in Phoenix so I didn’t have many dish washing experiences.  But here it’s all done by hand and for me it isn’t quite the same “enjoyable” experience..however with Chuck helping (I wash, he dries) it is better 🙂

Here is a photo of our kitchen sink:

First, please ignore the caulk which is being eaten by the water (another reason we don’t drink it, in addition to the typhoid we may contract!)

Anyway, this is how I do my dishes.  The darker blue bowl is filled with first cold water from the tap and then hot water which is boiled either in an electric hot pot or if electricity is out I boil it on the gas stove.

To the right of the blue bowl is where I “stack” a few dirty dishes plus it gives me just enough room to rinse the dishes under the tap without filling the blue bowl up with cold water…if I’m careful.

It gets a bit tight and frustrating at times, and when we don’t have running water I have to use two bowls, one for washing and one for rinsing, but I get the dishes washed no matter what!
