Last week you were given a glimpse into a routine here…washing dishes.
This week I’ll show you another routine…washing clothes. I was actually going to put this on Sunday but internet and electricity was not cooperating (just like Saturday).
We did set up the generator on Sunday to get things done on the computer.
First we (ok, Chuck!) routed the generator from the outside window to the computer step down machine then back to the tv. After our computers were charged we then routed from the generator to the tv and then to the refrigerator. Whew! Thankful for the generator but not to be too excited the internet was sporadic. Can’t have everything, right?
Ok now for the routine of washing clothes.
I begin by filling up basins with water from the tap (this tap is located in our shower). Normally I have two or three basins…for this one pictured I have to boil water to add to the basin along with bleach for my whites. The rest of the laundry gets cold water.
Then the soaking process begins, which lasts approximately 1 hour or longer depending on what I’m doing.
Next stage….basins are brought out to the kitchen sink where they are rinsed in the sink and then put into another basin of clean (tap) water. Once the soap is out (and I don’t think I ever get all the soap out) the clothes are hand wrung and put into a dry basin.
Then everything is taken outside to hang up. I normally check the weather before starting this entire process…no need to wash and hang out if it’s raining or cloudy.
The hanging clothes outside doesn’t bother me…I like the smell, reminds me of my childhood, but throwing clothes into a washing machine, now that I miss.
With that said, however, I am thankful for running water (when we have it) instead of getting water from the local watering hole…used by humans and animals alike.
