When tragedy hits close to home I grieve, weep, ask questions, and pray for those friends and family left behind. It is also a harsh reminder that tragedy hits close to home for thousands of people everyday.
I’m reminded of the tragedy that may have been for our kids (who now live at C4KK) if not for the grace of God. Before 2011 they did not know when or where their next meal was coming from, they were not attending school, most had medical issues which were not being addressed (worms, malaria, etc.), the latrine they were using was extremely unsafe, the living conditions were unsanitary, they felt abandoned and the list goes on.
Although it is a daily struggle, our kids at C4KK are eating a healthy variety of food, have access to medical attention, sleep in a warm bed, a roof covers their head, education is available, people are here who love them and that list too goes on. Seeing and being a part of that can, however, create complacency within me. It seems to be the old adage…out of sight out of mind or an ‘all is right with the world’ type of feeling (however off base that may be). But when that spell is broken and I see what’s around me I can also feel overwhelmed….I can’t help all the children dying every single day from preventable diseases or the teen suicide rate or children being forced into the sex industry What I can do is continue to ask for God’s guidance on the next step. He has done that continually throughout my life but I see it especially over the past 5 years (eyes open more, heart open more? Whatever it is God has opened them to see Him more clearly). When we ask God to show us the way…be prepared because He will! Are you ready to hear and act upon whatever it is God is asking you to do!?
One individual can make a difference in the life of another person…..that’s how I look at our ministry…one child at a time. I pray God will continue to move hearts to help and take action, whether that be physically (going to a destination to help), financially or prayerfully. I pray God will continue to pour His grace, love and mercy upon those who love Him, those crying out to Him and those lost seeking to be found. I pray we all, who claim Jesus as our Lord and Savior, will live out the gospel….Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world (Bible-book of James) and to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God (Bible-book of Micah).
