Communication can and should be a beautiful thing.  It can, however, get quite muddled when people are involved or when the lack of communication creates problems, frustrations or misunderstandings.

Today we had a situation at our boys’ secondary school.  A fire broke out at 11pm (Tuesday evening) in one of the dorms, killing a student.  How did we hear about this?  Ann, C4KK’s matron, heard it on the radio.  But the news was broadcast in Kamba (a tribal language, not her mother tongue, nor one of the national languages here in Kenya-English/Kiswahili).  Therefore, she wasn’t able to catch all the information that was being reported, she only knew there was a fire and a student had been killed.

I tried to call the principal but his phones (he has three phone numbers) were turned off…I’m sure due to the number of calls he was receiving.  There is no land line at the school and no way to get any more information about the fire or if our boys were involved.

We were able to speak to someone on-site (other principals met at the school to offer their support/help) and they told us the parents of the student who was killed had been notified and it appeared to be arson.  We now knew our boys were safe, but now what?  We were told it would probably be best to visit the school to see how the boys are and then find out if school would continue or be shut down for the time being.

So that’s where we are….getting ready to head up to the school to find out what’s happening.  Actually Chuck and Bosco are headed up there as I am not feeling well (headache, cold symptoms, no biggie just not feeling up to that trip to the school)  I will, though, let you know what is found out.

Please pray for the family who lost their son, for the student or students responsible for this tragedy and the entire student body and staff for God’s peace to cover them during this stressful and sad time.
