Yesterday I reported that our boys’ secondary school had been set on fire.  Last night just before arriving home we received a call from one of the boys, he said they were being released from school (to report back on August 3), so Chuck picked up the boys and took them back to C4KK.

We have five boys from C4KK attending this school along with two other sponsored kids and they were not harmed, thank God.  One of our boys however was in the same dorm room as the boy who was killed and made it out with just the clothes on his back.

The info we have is 10 boys were responsible for setting the fire and were caught.  Our hope and prayer is the principal/school/administration/police will do something about this and not simply sweep it under the rug.  You wouldn’t think a death would be handled so lightly but as we saw with our friend Kitavi, you never know.  We’ve seen students strike, start fires or destroy school property simply because they didn’t want to take exams or want a bus or want meat once a week (we’ve had experience with these instances and more at schools).

I’ve had discussions with our secondary students, telling them they don’t have to necessarily agree with every law/rule, but resorting to violence and destruction of property is not the answer.  Unfortunately that’s not the message society is teaching them.  Until a society enforces the laws and rules set by their government (and this includes holding the government accountable to these same laws and rules) we’ll continue to see students stamp their feet in defiance expecting to be given what they want.  And these are the people who will eventually run this country….you can see where that will lead.

Please keep the staff and student body in your prayers as they work through their grief, that God’s peace may permeate throughout this situation and how it is handled.
