Time frame for the past 24 hours or so….
Saturday:
2pm – setting up to watch a movie (Shrek 2) at C4KK
2:30pm – working on a letter for Peter (dealing with the corrupt pastor)
3:30pm – finally watching the movie (time for a laugh with Puss….in Boots!)
5pm – packing up to leave C4KK and having kids ask for games….unlocked office door, and that in itself is a procedure, and handed out 2 UNO decks, 1 checkers game and a net ball.
6:30pm – arrive home to find no electricity and no water….meaning no shower, but bucket bathing
7pm – heat leftover pizza on gas stove, heat water for bucket bath and get the generator set up
7:30-9:30pm – watch tv (actually MASH dvds), smell gas fumes from generator and block out the sound of the generator
9:30pm – turn off the generator and prepare for bed
9:45pm – electricity comes back on! Guess I can watch Mad Max 2 on tv now!
11:30pm – bed
Sunday:
7:30am – wake up and start the hot water heater (for coffee) before electricity decides to go off again. Received a call from the secondary student who was sent home for lack of paying damage fees (which the school never told him the amount but sent him home anyway) and organized on where he’ll pick up the funds we have for him.
8am – get things around for our trip to Nairobi
8:30am – electricity goes off (surprise)
8:45am – eat breakfast and discuss “stuff”
9am – get a call from Chris (one of our five boys who attends Kinyui Secondary) telling us they are sending them home because of the teacher’s strike. Now get this….they insisted the boys pay fees (which includes the boys boarding, eating and being taught at school) plus the extra 6000/ksh for damages (per kid) before even allowing them into school and yet are now sending them home. As a side note we haven’t budgeted for them to eat at C4KK but at school…..we’ll be in a pinch.
10am – Willy arrives to take us to Nairobi….first we stop at Sunny Lucky for a rat trap (Ann found a rat near the stove at C4KK, yuck), drop off funds for the secondary student, leave Tala
10:30am – arrive at C4KK to drop off rat trap and a few other items
11am – leave for Nairobi
12:45pm – arrive in Nairobi, meet Johnny & Kate for lunch and head to the room for some rest and chatting.
Now it is 6:30pm and I’ve hooked up to the much quicker internet here….uploading a video, updating windows, updating apps, working on getting my Nook working (no luck so far on that) and working on emails (couldn’t attach attachments with Tala internet). But also chatting with Kate & Johnny….good times!
