Last week I decided to hang out with Chuck during his day.  You know kind of follow him around like a puppy and see what he does, plus there still was no electricity so I could just as easily read where he was as at home!

He spent the day at the farm (land we are currently leasing, click HERE for information on a Christmas gift idea) to help build the watchman’s home.  This home is temporary since we are only leasing the land and a watchman is needed for when the plants start to sprout to keep animals away and during harvest time so no one steals the crops before they are harvested.

Here’s my view of the day:

The watchman's house (2-rooms) got a door, a window and a floor today.

We had to drive to a nearby quarry to load material for the floor

At the quarry the best material had to be found by driving around

Once the material was found the two workers began loading it into the truck. Chuck helped move the material around the bed of the truck in order to get a full load

This kid was a hard worker...ahh to be young again!

These next photos are my eyes looking around the quarry:

Then it was back to the farm:

Looking out over the savannah from the watchman's home

These were all around the property and some had to be removed

While the workers were removing the above thorn trees Johnny (one of the workers) sat down and had to have “something” removed from his leg (sorry no photo I probably would have fainted).  This is no hospital setting so Chuck got his jackknife, which Bosco (the worker doing the “surgery”) proceeded to use to cut the thing out.  Then he couldn’t grasp it so Chuck then got his needle nose pliers (dad, I bet you never thought your tools would be put to this type of work did you!?) and the little invader was quickly plucked from the ankle and Johnny jumped up and began taking down more thorn trees.  I believe we should put up a small MASH tent – mobile africa surgery hospital!

Then the evening began showing itself and telling us it was time to end the day:

Thank you Lord for a beautiful and productive day, safety for Johnny, smooth hands for Bosco’s surgical debut and a chance to spend some time with my best friend.
