It’s been an interesting couple of days.  I guess that isn’t really saying much since most days are pretty interesting here in Kenya!  But the past few days have been a bit crazy –

Tuesday we were at the property getting the gate installed (click here for how the gate was transported to the property):

The gate is carried to the property - don't worry it isn't far!

It's installed! Now time to paint!

We also had more of the pit dug for the toilets:

An explosive was put in the hole, now they are digging out the rubble

And also a bit more work on the property:

While the pit was being dug, an exit/gate was being placed on the back portion of the property

I found a treasure too!

A nice, round stone for my collection!

It was a very hot day and I was so looking forward to a shower only to have the electricity go out just as we got home!  Cold showers are just not my favorite thing.

Wednesday our plans were to go to the property for a bit then come back to Nice View to help a secondary student (Alex-not his real name) get fees paid and some shopping done before heading to school.  As we were leaving Tala the wheel of the truck started making a funny noise, so instead of driving on and not having anyone around who can work on the tire we headed back to Tala.  That’s really when the craziness began.  I had to get a ride back home (didn’t feel like waiting around at the petrol station in the sun) and then call the student who was supposed to meet us at Nice View to meet us at the petrol station. Once he arrived I got a ride back to the station, got the students papers, came back home to scan them for my records then headed back to the station.  Thankfully just as I walked into the house to scan the papers I heard our microwave beep…meaning electricity  had just come back on!  Thank you Lord for that tiny blessing!

After going back to the station we sent the uncle and Bosco to the bank to pay fees (they stood in line for about 2 hours!  That’s what happens the first couple of days of each school term, everyone is at the bank paying fees.)  We took Alex shopping for books and supplies.  Remember it’s everything a person would need to live on their own…the schools do not supply items such as toilet paper, pens, etc., those are all the students responsibilities.

Once we were finished we met Bosco with the uncle and sent Alex and his uncle on their way to prepare for the next day when Alex would go to school.  By this time it was around 6:30pm and it seemed a very long day but we had never left Tala!!  We got home, I put groceries away and got ready to take a shower when the electricity went out…meaning another cold shower for me 🙁  (there just isn’t enough power from the generator to work the electric shower head).  But we made food that only used the gas stove and the generator allowed us to watch the news.  Needless to say it was time for bed early!
