Walking several kilometers to a, usually questionable, water source, then filling up a 5 to 10 liter jug and having to walk back home (several kilometers again) with said jug filled, and heavy with water, is a way of life for many, many people in Kenya.  Sometimes a donkey or motorbike is available to transport the water but normally the women will either put it on top of their head or on their backs for the long trek home.

I’ve said it before and I stand by it….women in Kenya are strong women, both physically and mentally.

Now, think about these strong women having to carry heavy loads, with their young children either trailing behind or being carried on mom’s back, along these paths….

It sure would be nice if their government (local and national) would do something about this situation…good water source and decent walkways would be a blessing for so many families.
